CONSIGNMENT
FIREARMS SALES

One gun or an entire collection.
With an excellent reputation for
successfully and discreetly handling the private sale of
firearms for our clients. We look forward to doing business with
you!

Just
a few examples of what our past inventories have included. . .
- Our terms:
- Consignment fees may vary from 20% of the
selling price if we are only selling a few items, down to
somewhat less for larger collections of twenty or more
weapons, excepting that any items that sell for less than
$300. retail will be charged at the 20% commission rate.
All fees are deducted at time of final sale, or not at
all in the unlikely event that the consigned item was
never sold. Any items we sell on consignment that are
purchased by credit card are charged an additional 3% fee
off the owner's net, this is the fee the bank charges us
for accepting credit cards. In addition, any charges for
work that you may have had me perform on a firearm in
order to make it more saleable, which are up to that time
unpaid, will be deducted from the proceeds at time of
final sale, unless the gun has not sold and is to be
returned to the owner, in which case these charges would
be due and payable.
- Selling price
range:
- We are often asked
what can I expect to sell such and
such for? and, How
do you determine a price? In all
honest, if the items you have for sale are not fairly
priced, they probably will not sell
. . .period.
- The selling
price range is an area (estimated
minimum-maximum) within which we feel your property is
fairly priced and where we feel it should sell within a
reasonable amount of time. This is a range which you the
seller, would agree to with us before the items are
placed on sale. The selling price range is based on
values listed in current arms valuation books, on reports
of current selling prices of comparable firearms and on
my own expertise in this field. This does not guarantee
that any given item will sell within that price range,
the price range is only a suggested arena that is based
on our opinion of market conditions at the time of
initial consignment. If, after several months the price
has been reduced to the minimum suggested range and the
item is still unsold, we may suggest to the owner that
the price be lowered to reflect changing market
conditions, or that you remove this item from sale for a
time.
-
- It is our aim to
help the seller realize the highest profit possible. To
this end we work to see that at time of sale you receive
at least the minimum amount you have specified when you
consigned the items with us, although as a rule we will
exceed this level. The more the seller makes, the more we
make.
-
CONTACTING US:
- e-mail address dave@oldwestgunsmith.com please type CONSIGN as
the message subject. If you would like me to call you,
please request this and type your telephone number into
the e-mail, giving me an idea of the best times to
telephone.
- Please let me know
in the initial e-mail just what you are interested in
selling and as much as possible about the condition and
or the history of the items. The more you can tell me
initially, the easier it is for me to respond in an
educated fashion. My response will always be a fair and
honest one. There may also be times that my suggestion to
you could be not to consign some specific item for sale.
Some of the reasons we might suggest this could include a
poor market for it at that time, its condition or perhaps
we feel you are expecting to realize much more than the
item might reasonably fetch.
- Sending firearms for
consignment sale:
- Since I am a
federally licensed firearms dealer, as an individual, you
may legally ship firearms to me for repair, sale,
consignment or appraisal. Some notes:
- Ship all firearms
pre-paid to: David R. Chicoine (e-mail me for a shipping
address) dave@oldwestgunsmith.com and always request a
direct signature on delivery.
- The postal service
will not accept modern handguns except on a dealer to
dealer basis, so unlicensed individuals must use a
private carrier; such as UPS or Fed-Ex. USPS
will accept all antiques and long-guns.
- UPS will only ship
modern handguns by overnight express, we prefer FedEx 2
day service, fast efficient and up to now hassle free.
- Should you have
difficulty getting UPS or FedEx to ship your weapons or
if it is just not convenient; please let me know. If you
are able to box them up yourself (we will be happy to
offer packing suggestions) then we are able to arrange
for FedEx to pick the collection up directly from your
house.
- Antique arms (made
before December 31st, 1898) may be shipped by any method
you like, but the United States Postal Service insured or
Registered Mail has proven to be the most reliable for us.
- Modern long-guns
may also be shipped by any method you like.
- Please take care
to make certain that all guns are UNLOADED and NEVER ship
ammunition in the same box with the weapon.
- Shipping charges
from the owner to me and/or back to the owner as well as
any repair/cleaning charges authorized by the owner to
improve the weapon's salability are solely the
responsibility of the owner.
- Please, do
not send photos via e-mail unless we
ask you for them.
