CONSIGNMENT
FIREARMS SALES

I will gladly accept firearms for consignment sale, from
one gun to an entire collection.
Types
of items we will accept:
Although my clients lean toward collectable 19th century
weapons, guns of the old west and cowboy guns, we have had
excellent results over the years selling everything from fancy
engraved single shot rifles to expensive shotguns and older
military weapons, even firearms accessories and antique reloading
equipment.
Consignment
fees may
vary from 20% of the selling price if we are only selling a few
items, down to somewhat less for larger collections of twenty or
more weapons, except that any items that sell for less than $300.
retail will be charged at the 20% commission rate. All fees are
deducted at time of final sale, or not at all in the unlikely
event that the consigned item was never sold. Any items sold by
me that are purchased by credit card are charged an additional 3%
fee off the owner net, this is the fee the bank charges us for
accepting credit cards. Any charges for work that you may have
had me perform on any firearms in order to make them more
saleable, which are up to that time unpaid, will also be deducted
from the proceeds at time of final sale unless the gun has not
sold and is to be returned to the owner, in which case these
charges would be due and payable before the return.
Selling
price range: We are
often asked "what can I expect to sell such and such for?"
There is a simple rule for this; if the items you have for sale
are not fairly priced, they probably will
not sell . . .period.
- The selling price range is a price
range (estimated minimum-maximum) in which we feel your
property is fairly priced and within which we feel it
should sell in a reasonable amount of time, and to which
you the seller, would have to agree to before the items
are placed on sale. The selling price range is based on
values listed in current arms valuation books, on reports
of current selling prices of comparable firearms and on
my own expertise in this field. This does not guarantee
that any given item will sell within that price range,
the price range is only a suggested arena that is based
on our opinion of market conditions at the time of
initial consignment. If, after several months the price
has been reduced to the minimum suggested range and the
item is still unsold, we may suggest to the owner that
the price be lowered to reflect changing market
conditions, or that you remove this item from sale for a
time.
-
- The bottom line is. . .it
is our aim to help the seller realize the highest profit
possible. To this end we will work to see that
you, the seller receive at least the minimum amount you
have specified when you consigned the items with us and
as a rule we will exceed this level because the bottom
line is. . .the more the seller makes, the more we make.
- Shipping charges from
the owner to me and/or back to the owner as well as any
repair/cleaning charges authorized by the owner to
improve the weapon's salability are solely the
responsibility of the owner.

- My background:
- For over 30 years
I have been a working gunsmith, former
proprietor of Liberty Antique Gunworks; specializing in
the repair and restoration of antique and obsolete
firearms. Arms makers such as Browning, Cimarron Firearms,
Marlin, Navy Arms, Remington, Smith & Wesson, Uberti
USA, and U.S. Repeating Arms Company regularly refered
customers with obsolete/antique and reproduction weapons
to my shop.
- For more than 20
years I maintained the largest cataloged inventory
of obsolete/antique Smith & Wesson revolver parts
anywhere.
- I am the Editor of
Bullet 'N Press; an
antique firearms newspaper.
- Author of "Gunsmithing Guns of the Old
West"
now in its second edition, and "Guns of the New West" and "The Gun Digest Manual of Antique
Firearms Assembly/Disassembly" all published by Krause
Publications and "Smith & Wesson Sixguns
of the Old West" published by Andrew Mowbray Publishers.
Contributing editor for the American Rifleman.
My articles have appeared in: American Gunsmith,

CONTACTING ME:
- e-mail address consignments@oldwestgunsmith.com please type CONSIGN as the
message subject. If you would like me to call you, please request
this, type your telephone number into the e-mail and give
me an idea of the best times to telephone.
- Please let me know
in the initial e-mail just what you are interested in
selling and as much as possible about the
condition and or the history of the items. The more you
can tell me initially, the easier it is for me to respond
in an educated fashion. My response will always be a afir
and honest one. There may also be times that my
suggestion to you could be not to consign some specific
item for sale. Some of the reasons we might suggest this
could include a poor market for it at that time, its
condition or perhaps you are wanting to realize much more
than the item could fairly fetch.
