Shipping guns to us. . .

If you would like to send a firearm in for an estimate of repair costs, e-mail us first to get a shipping address at cowboy@oldwestgunsmith.com

Individuals may legally ship antique firearms of any sort or modern rifles or shotguns (there is a provision in the GCA 1968 which allows this.) To ship your modern handgun using UPS or FedEx air, package it first, then take your package to a UPS or FedEx (FedEx will provide free shipping boxes) shipping store. Mailbox's Etc or a Pac Mail might refuse to ship your handgun, its not the law, it just seems to be policy.

Be sure you insure your weapon for its value, so it can be replaced if it gets lost or damaged in shipment. You cannot ship your handgun by USPS (U.S. Mail.) The only way you can ship a handgun USPS is to take it to you local dealer and have them ship it for you, the US Postal Service only accepts modern handgun shipments from dealer to dealer. Modern handguns can be shipped to me through your local dealer, simply e-mail me your request along with your dealer's mailing address and we will mail a copy of my FFL within 24 hours.

If everyone gives you a really hard time about shipping a handgun; we have another solution! Get a free FedEx shipping box from FedEx, the medium or large size. Pack your revolver up well and seal it up along with your check and letter to me. Then e-mail me with your address and telephone number where the gun can be picked up and we will take care of arranging for FedEx to pick the package up directly from you. Someone will have to be at the location for the pickup. A shipping label which you have to print out will be e-mailed to your computer from FedEx or brought by the FedEx driver. I will bill you for the charges, which are less than you might expect and not much more than if you shipped direct. This option may eliminate some hassles from your experience.

When packing, be sure that the weapon is well padded, especially around the sights and hammer. Use a heavy walled cardboard box. Be sure to put your handgun in a plastic bag before placing it in the box and putting bubble wrap around it for protection. Padded gun cases inside the cardboard box are a great idea too.

N. Carolina residents will not have to comply with interstate statutes since they are not shipping across state lines and may ship directly to me, but you still cannot ship modern handguns through the USPS unless you are a dealer.

We are not open to the public, this is a gunsmithing-only shop and we do not allow walk-in traffic, we have developed an excellent reputation for doing business strictly by mail-order, and we have done business this way for more than 30 years.

~ All jobs are final quoted by written estimate only after inspection and on an individual basis only.
