Smith & Wesson Model No. 2 Army, .32 rimfire, serial#13728 (circa 1863), 3 pin frame-this is a Type 4 (per the Ron Curtis' study.) The family lore behind this gun is that it was purchased in 1922 by the present owner's dad from its original owner, a Civil War veteran who lived in Clark County, Ohio and had lost a leg in the war. Unfortunately, that veteran's name is lost to history. The revolver retains fully 50-60% original bright blue with areas of grey patina and some pitting. It's cylinder is a replacement but is a good match, the revolver shows sharp lines, edges and very good markings. The rosewood grips are matched to the gun and retains almost all their original, amber varnish with minor denting and one tint sliver mising from a toe. The 6" barrel fitter's number matches the frame, its bore is somewhat pitted from the corrosive priming of its day, but still shows very strong, deep and distinct rifling. In mechanically excellent condition and fairly priced at $1125. (antique)
