Custom Mauser Model 98 rifle in 22-250 caliber. This heavy target/woodchuck rifle was built on one of those excellent CZ; VZ-24 actions from a rare Guatamalan contract Mauser, its weight is about 12.5 pounds. The McGowan Premium bull barrel is 24" long, its diameter is 1-1/8" straight with no taper and a perfect bore, having fired only about 150 rounds. Timney trigger with a custom, smooth shoe and hand checkered Beuhler safety.
Major steel parts are slow rust blued, guard and FP are high luster blue, bolt stop spring is nitre blue and about 100% of those finishes remain. The original bolt has had its handle forged for scope use and has a one panel checkered bolt knob. The top of the rear receiver ring and the top of the bolt stop box are hand checkered. The trigger guard is sporterized and narrowed, it sports a hand-crafted pre-WW1 German style floorplate release lever. Fitted with a custom French walnut stock with a hand shaped, relieved and rebated cheekpiece, tulip carved "schnable" forend with Pau Brazil & ebony inlays, 14¼" LOP, Pachmayer Old English pad, set up for prone shooting, oil finished and in near new condition. Checkered steel Niedner pistol grip cap.
As you can see from the photos, the action screws are brand new and just built, they are to be nitre blued and the gun will be sold with new locking screws and QD sling swivel bases as well. Hand-made, machined 4140 steel scope bases securely hold a beautiful old Unertl 16 power, 1½" Target scope in Unertl mounts, the optics in this wonderful scope are still very clear.
