New cleaning tools from: Gunsmither Tools, 10 Jefferson Place, Hadlock, WA 98339 (306) 379-2691. Scrape and Scrub™ tools and Baby Brush™ tools $6.95 each or any two for $12.
Every gunsmith has to do more than his share of simple cleaning jobs, and when a gun owner gives the gunsmith his gun to be cleaned, he expects the gun to be extremely clean; right down into and including the smallest, hardest to find details. That is where these unusual new tools come in.
Scrape and Scrub tools™ and Baby Brush™ are a new line of very different cleaning tools from Gunsmith Joe Beary that I have been using here in my own shop. Just look at the proposed jobs these tools are intended for: scraping the gunk from screwslots, to scrape out black powder fouling, to scrape extractor slots, the Baby Brush™ can be used to wipe dirt from tight spots and to loosen black powder residue.
The Scrape and Scrub tools tools are based on hollow, brass tube handles (both round and square) with an angled, and almost infinitely re-sharpenable point on one end and a .006" bristle, stainless steel, trimable brush on the other. The brushes are also available angled.
Baby Bore tools have a similar brush on one end of the tube, and the other is equipped to accept either 5/40 or 8/32 thread cleaning brushes. The smaller of the two will accept .17 and .20 caliber bore brushes and is wonderful for getting into small screw holes, extractor cuts, etc., while the larger is ideal for use as a cylinder chamber cleaning tool.
These tools actually do everything the maker claims and more. . . as you use these handly new tools I believe you will find loads of other useful purposes for them, as I have been doing. After working with these tools in the shop for only a few days I am finding them very useful, so much so that I've begun to wonder how I ever ever did detail cleaning work without them! Of course the answer is; I always did, but I realize now it was much more work without them. For gun cleaning and maintenance work these tools are real time savers and they enable you to get into some very difficult areas with an ease that no other off-the-shelf tool will. Whether you are a working gunsmith or the gun collector/owner they are well worth the investment for your tool kit.
