This new book by well-known handgun expert John Taffin offers an in-depth look at large caliber handguns. He gives the reader a really generous view of the evolution of the handgun then delves into the specifics of big-bore sixguns, both old and modern. Clearly, John's preferrence for single action revolvers shows throughout the book and I think he does a pretty good job of explaining why he feels they are the best big-bore handguns.
Nevertheless, the entire spectrum of big-bore handguns are well covered, including double action revolvers, single shot pistols and automatics. He doesn't stop there but goes on to explains what you can do with them and what accessories are available for shooters. Shooting, hunting, self-defense, handgun grips, leather, ammunition and reloading are discussed as well as rifle-handgun combinations.
We can't forget that the book is titled "Big-Bore Handguns", and within it, Taffin really gives a fine-tuned, caliber by caliber rundown, explaining what each caliber is, what it can be expected to do and what handguns are available chambered for it. I like John's writing style. Yes, he is opinionated, but the last time I looked, he knew what he was talking about and that means his opinions can be counted on. The book is full of sound, valuable advise for handgun shooters whether they be they first timers, or long term primer-poppers.
